Webinar RegistrationManaging Intraoperative Complications in Adult Cataract Surgery: Prevention, Recognition, and Rescue Strategies

Sep 23, 2026, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM New York time

During this live webinar, we will review a practical framework for anticipating, recognizing, and managing common intraoperative complications encountered during adult cataract surgery, with an emphasis on maintaining safety and optimizing outcomes. We will discuss risk assessment and prevention pearls that help reduce complication rates before issues arise. The session will cover rapid recognition and decision-making for scenarios such as posterior capsule rupture (PCR) with or without vitreous loss, zonular weakness, iris-related problems, and challenges during nucleus and cortex management. Dr. Otero will highlight key intraoperative “decision points” that guide whether to proceed, stabilize, convert technique, or stage the case. We will also review IOL planning considerations when the capsular bag is compromised and strategies to reduce postoperative sequelae after a complicated case. Time will be reserved for Q&A and case-based discussion to help attendees translate principles into real-world surgical practice. (Level: Intermediate and Advanced) Lecturer: Dr. Ernesto Otero, Ophthalmologist, Barraquer Institute of America, Colombia Language: English The webinar is intended for eye care professionals.
